Freesylee Sessions

Post by adrianc » Tue Mar 21, 2017 2:42 pm

Hi,

So we are getting to the time of the year when the weather starts to get a bit warmer and in theory there's less rain. So its time to break out the play boats. I am planning to put a few things together and I am looking for a register of interest.

- regular play sessions at sluice, trim, stackallen (prob every 2nd sat or something like that)
- coaching sessions
- river running in the playboats (if the rain gods permit)

All of these sessions will be run as peer sessions so ideally you should have a roll or be starting to get a consistent roll (esp for the coaching sessions to get the most out of them).

The aim here is to start to get a group of paddlers together of all skills sets to get out and have a good old mess about in the playboats - there's nothing like it on a sunny day with a drop of water in the river.

So if you are interested get your name down letting me know what you are interested in and we will see how we can get things kicked off ...

Adrian

Count me in please Adrian. Happy to lend anyone my Project X 48 if I'm not using it on any particular day.

Thanks for organising.

Paul.

I'd be interested, can't see myself getting too much further afield than sluice for the next few months. If people are about I'd be keen to do some weekday evening sessions too as the evenings get brighter.

Nice one Paul. For anyone else there's also two wavesports in the club which I am sure would love to see some action!

Hi Adrian, don't be afraid to get outside coaching (paid) for these sessions as I'm sure you could get one of the Irish Freestyle Squad members to run sessions and it would benefit everybody greatly ( ps I know WWKC has an aversion to paying for coaching but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do )

Cheers Bernard - you are on the money there, will look at setting up regular paid coaching alright. We got Alan Murphy and Conor Macken in before and everyone really benefited from the coaching.

Great to see this level of interest - 12 people already! We these numbers we should be able to get some regular peer sessions going!

Let's get as many of us as we can down to the Club Champs in Clonmel on April 9th (1pm until 3pm); we don't have to be very good - just show up in numbers. We can share boats. Sign up before Friday 31st http://www.wwkc.net/club-champs-2017-sign-up/. 8)

Hi Adrian,
I wouldn't mind popping along to a session or two if it is an option. There is the double difficulty though of fitting me into a playboat and the fact that I don't have one. That said I borrowed Aido's InaZone and I can fit into that once the foot rest is removed if that is an acceptable craft to use and Aido lets me use it for a couple of sessions. Skill level I have done static sessions in my creeker and roll is getting there but no playboat experience to speak of.
Let me know.
Thanks,
Kieran

Great stuff. Messing about in a playboat will help with that combat roll..

Wrt to size, some playboats are better for the larger paddler than others. Wavesports can be good as can some of the older old school playboats. I know that Ken Kelly had a nice large playboats down in Kerry..

Hi Adrian,

I would like to give this a go. I don't have a play boat though.
My roll isn't great but it is getting there.

Thanks,
Adrien

Ken and Gerry tried to squeeze me into their playboats in Kerry. I just need to shave 6 inches off one leg 3 inches either side of the knee and I am good to go.

I might be able to bring a spare boat, it'd be for the smaller paddler.
@Kieranmolloy, if an Inazone is what you've got, then bring it along. It'll be fine to get you going on the basics of playboating, it was my playboat of choice for many years. It surfs and cartwheels (even on the flat) so it'll be enough to get you started.

Just seeing this post now. I'd like to jump on board when you're heading out. Also as with Paul K anyone welcome to use the Big Dog Havoc when I can't get there.
