A ladies marathon day was held on Sunday the 17th February.

Just how did Jenny Kilbride of kayaking.ie arrange for the good weather provided with the good fun paddling Sunday at Salmon Leap Canoe Club ?

43 women of all abilities turned up on the day to try sprint, marathon and wildwater paddling. Thanks to the support of the clubs, there were boats of all shapes and sizes available to try on the day. Ranging from the more stable GPs, to the not so stable K1s! There was plenty of laughs, plenty of falling in and in the end plenty of paddling as the women paddled up and down Leixlip Lake. It was a great day of unity as
women from all over the country worked together to share ideas and knowledge and to help each other out on the water. After the water session participants hit the gym followed by a flexibility and stretching session. The day was a great success and it is hoped that this will be the first of many such days.

Thanks to the WWKC discipline officers for helping with club equipment, Doc for coaching the K-boat coaches, and our WWKC ladies, Emma, Maeve, and Yvonne for coaching and demonstrating, Fiona and Eirini for boat transport, and a special thanks to the Ladies Day concept provider who is one of our DCU paddlers, Laura.
