Open Canoeing (commonly known as Canadian Canoeing) is fast growing in the club under the mentorship of Gerry Coonan. The club now has a fleet of Open Canoes for people to barrow and these can commonly be seen on races with the Irish Dairy Board logo splashed on them.

As opposed to Kayaking these boats are paddled with a single bladed paddle and the canoeist is generally kneeling in the boat so that they have better control.

The Open Canoeing section have an annual trip to Cootehall in Co. Roscommon (near Carrick-on-Shannon/Boyle). They camp on a club members grounds and have a brilliant Bar-b-que after the days paddling.

They also run Level 2 courses throughout the year so keep your eye on the Forum/calendar for the next event.
