Kerry Training & Rescue Weekend 13/14 March
Hi folks,
As promised at the club Trip ‘Cover’ Meeting in January, we are holding the Kerry ‘Rescue and Safety’ Weekend in the Spring 2010. The dates agreed are the weekend of March 13th / 14th.
Over the last number of years the club has shown great initiative in its provision of rescue and safety training. Senior members of the club designed a new type of course based on decision-making and intuition. Nothing like this was available to paddlers prior to our course and we still lead the field in the development of this training.
The club employs instructors for these weekends who continue to develop the original concepts. They are picked from among the top paddlers in the country for their abilities to facilitate while staying student focused, as well as for their wealth of rescue experience in Ireland and abroad.
This course is intended for, and has been designed for the club member who is regularly involved in leading and helping on club trips, courses and river rescue days (race rescue) etc
It is not intended for the opportunistic type, simply looking to cash in on the best rescue training in the country
So as always there are some qualifying criteria to be considered.
(1) If you feel that you are someone who has been active in the club over the last year on club trips and courses.
(2) If you feel that you can commit to the same level of involvement over the next 12 months.
(3) If you feel that you are comfortable running grade 3 water.
You need to be able to say ‘YES’ to these three criteria.
If you can, then contact me as soon as possible.
Some of the fee for the weekend will be subsidised by the club, so it is a fantastic opportunity to improve your river leading skills.
This is a pro-active initiative by the club that both rewards the hard work put in by club leaders and ‘Cover’ helpers over the club year and develops leadership skills in upcoming paddlers.
I will be working with the Club trips officer to see who has been instrumental in making the club trips and weekends away happen.
For this reason we are asking anyone who knows that they will not be available to the club over the next 12 months, not to apply.
A pre requisite for the weekend is that you have already practiced the rope work and rescues appropriate to grade 3 Water.
Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Cheers,
Tadhg
